Still more info and clarification.. it seems that the email icon redraw happens after the badge redraw and that might be the reason for the bug. Also I'm running cm10.1 with android 4.2.2 ;)

Email (stock) does not work properly. When unlocking the screen the email notification badge shows for very short period of time and then disappears. This does not happen if the screen is not locked. Very annoying ;(

Have installed the new launcher and found a couple of issues with the new feature. It only shows up on the lock screen, NOT in the dock or app drawer. It will only use the theme colour (in my case blue) even though I have set it to red. Hope this helps. Great work and appreciate you listening to your customers. Running Android 4.1.2 on SGS2.

Tesla Unread the plugin for Nova launcher creates an invisible email widget for unread count why doesn't Apex do something like that?

Making smaller apps use the apex notification api is fine but stock apps will never do this Google provides a mail app and it works with the features of there launcher. I want to use your replacement launcher so it should at least support the stock apps. Not least because your description implies it does and that's why I paid for it.

It's working in current Pro version. Number of SMS/calls/emails is displayed on the icon.

Nova paid pro launcher has a free downloadable plugin that puts the email notification badge on the email icon. Like Goran, I found out after I paid for the Apex Pro. The Apex developers may not think it is a big deal, but it is a big deal. It may be too late for me to request a refund, but I am pi**ed off that people were mislead.

Have any email app developers implemented this feature yet?

What a joke, the only reason for the full paid version is the email notification. I dont need notifications for my missed phone calls and i dont use gmail. Great launcher but worthless to me and a waste of money without supporting mail through the default andorid mail app.

Also bought the Pro Version mostly for this functionality. Play Store does say "unread count notifications" for this to exclude something as basic as email is unreasonable. Given the broad brush statement given on the Play Store I'd expected all notifications to work. If this is a problem IMO you should provide Facebook, Google+ and Twitter as a minimum.
The lack of stock email is likely to make apex unusable for me.
Please add this feature.

I'm sorry, but in the Play Store it specifically says:
- Unread count notifications
I bought the Pro Version mostly for this functionality. To say it is there and then make me find out it is only partially there is false advertising. I think this needs to be added in. It is very frustrating not having unread message notifications for stock E-mail.

I've contacted Apex's developers directly about this request. They've told me that they have no plans to impliment native unread count support themselves for any other apps (like Email, FB, WhatsApp etc). Instead, their solution is to provide an API to the Apex notification badge feature, and leave it up to the developers of other apps to integrate with this API.
Their new API is described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1930365 and is supported with Apex 1.3.2 and above.
This means that if we want to have this functionality in Apex, we have to contact the devs of other apps ourselves and ask them to support it from their side. Apex devs won't do this themselves, they told me. It also means we probably have next to zero chance of getting this feature supported for the very big apps like Facebook or Google+, because (IMO) it's unlikely that those apps would care to support this Apex API from their side.
WhatsApp might be another matter. If enough of us wrote to WhatsApp (android-support@whatsapp.com) and asked them to please support the new Apex API, then maybe they would listen and do it.
I'm a bit disappointed that Apex's developers have this attitude, though, of not bothering to impliment this functionality directly themselves, but instead are just passing the buck to the users. They told me the following (direct quote): "We have the API, if someone want this app to support that, they do it. You also can contact with the app developer to support that."

I would love to see support for an unread count for AquaMail by Kostya Vasilyev, best email app for multiple accounts / imap push / great widgets in my opinion :)
